School Board Update
December 12, 2007

Dear neighbors,

The school board has been in full swing lately, with our FY 2009 budget out for hearings -- our first is Tuesday, Dec. 18 at the High School cafeteria at 7 p.m. -- and plans for “equity and excellence” reorganization taking shape.  On Tuesday, Superintendent Collins presented the Board with a stack of possible changes to the District along with their associated costs, including things like magnet schools, major renovations, increased preschool, etc.  Those potential plans should be on the district website www.bsdvt.org within a day or so.  At our next meeting in January, we will have a report on the market survey that has been happening for the last month or so.  More than 350 parents already have completed phone surveys, and more have logged into the website to do an online version.  Teachers are filling out a related version as well.  So, by the time we meet for our big retreat in mid-January, we should have a lot of data to work with, and hopefully we will make some decisions this winter/spring. The online survey ends this weekend, so if you haven’t done a survey yet, please go to www.bsdvt.org and fill one out.  It only takes about ten minutes.

I have decided to run for a third term as school commissioner, so you may see me at your door with a clipboard in the next few weeks, gathering signatures to get my name on the ballot.  Since I am running again, this is a good time to hold me accountable, ask questions, throw me some feedback, etc.

Stay warm,

Amy Werbel
